When setting off for a week's riding at Digger's Rest I was not too sure what to expect. However, the country side is totally magnificent, awesome and everything else in between. The owners, and horse handlers were superb in all aspects. And, most importantly, I had a lovely horse. The bush hut accomodation was very quaint and the food was fabulous. The down side for me, it was a little hot ( unseasonally so) . However, this was managed with early starts, a large break midday and late afternoon riding.

I would highly recommend this for anyone who would like to ride off the beaten track while still being in a safe environment having fun.

What better way to explore the magnificent landscapes of the East Kimberley, 4 hooves so much better than 4 wheels. Diggers Rest gave us that opportunity. Alida's love of her horses is obvious. They are well trained, willing and in lovely condition.

We loved the bush huts, giving you views of the sun rising on the Cockburn Ranges and the biggest starry night skies. Food was fabulous.

My favourite was watching the sun go down miles from anywhere with nibbles and cold wine delivered to us. With like-minded people, we spent the best week, so good we are going back in 12 weeks.

Thank you so much team Diggers Rest.

Digger's Rest and On The Veranda put together a great women's horse riding trip! Everyone at the station was helpful and knowledgeable, the horses were absolutely amazing, accommodation in a bush hut was fantastic, and I loved the food. I enjoyed all of the extra activities that I joined, and only wish we could have gone to the races (cancelled--so sad!) If you're looking for the perfect place to stay and get far away from the bustle of modern life, or if you like dark night skies and beautiful subjects for photography, or if you've ever wanted to explore the bush on the back of a good horse, well--Digger's Rest is the place to visit! I'd be back really soon if the trip wasn't such a long one for me....... Thanks again to Alida, Rachel, and all the rest of the crew for the experience of a lifetime!

What an experience from start to finish. A real immersion into Kimberley life. Stunning scenery, kind cooperative horses, delicious food and plenty of adventure along the way. Everyone was so welcoming and I got to do and see things I had only dreamed about. If you can ride and are physically able give a trek a bash. Worth every cent!

Absolutely amazing people. Well looked after. Stunning place and the Bush huts are amazing. Horses are adorable and kind sweet and loving. Would recommend to everyone. Defiantly going back sooner rather than later.

We came to Diggers Rest Station for an Australia experience and boy did we get this. Horse riding through the Kimberly is unlike anything we have done before and it surpassed our expectations. The scenery was incredible and ever changing and the hospitality was great. The food prepared on the open bush fire was delicious and filling. The support team was welcoming and engaging. And our group of trekkers were incredible. Ranged in age from early 20’s to 60’s and we were fortunate to have met such wonderful people. You can’t fault the horses, I would describe them as pretty much “bomb proof”, but still with their own personalities. They did everything we asked of them including walking through water that came up to their stomachs. You do need to be able to put a bridle and saddle on your horse, as well as feel comfortable at least trotting. You are allocated a horse for the ride and you need to look after them. The whole experience of staying in tents in your swags under the stars that you could see for miles was a highlight. The sunsets and sun rises were also a talking point. This is a real back to the bush experience with no internet and basic accommodation that highlights the Australian bush at its best.

I always thought this would be a trip of a lifetime. But I was wrong. Can’t stop at just one trip because I’ll definitely be back coming back for more. Thank you Alida and Rod. It was an amazing experience and a must do for anyone who’s even vaguely thinking about it. Be prepared for great food, excellent company and getting your hands dirty. Start the days with picture perfect sunrises and end with peaceful sunsets before sleeping under the stars.

I spent 2 nights at Diggers and had two three hour rides while I was there. Alida and Roderick were lovely and I was made to feel right at home. The bush hut accommodation was great (I woke up each morning to a beautiful sunrise) and the riding was amazing. Incredible scenery, really good horses and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I would highly recommend it and hope to go back one day to go on one of their horse treks.

I have just returned from a wonderful week at Digger’s rest Station in the Kimberley. I was participating in a photo safari run by Rachel and Andrew of “On The Verandah”. Digger’s rest offer comfortable accommodation in either bunk rooms or bush huts. I chose the bush hut which offered views of the stars and the enjoyment of the night sounds. How wonderful to hear a dingo plus all the birds, cattle etc. Do not go to Digger’s rest if you plan to lose weight. The meals are yum and very substantial. Owners Alida and Roderick are very welcoming and you feel as if you are a part of their family. The stunning scenery was perfect for a keen photographer. How wonderful to enjoy a part of the Kimberley that is not on the standard tourist route. Bewley was a great tutor and he along with Andrew and Rachel went out of their way to provide the best opportunities for great photographs. The wonderful thing about Digger’s rest is that it offers so much. I was travelling solo but enjoyed the security of a group. If you have a partner who doesn’t want to participate in the workshops there is so much to keep them entertained. Walking around the station leads you to many hidden gems. I hope to return in the future as I feel I have only scraped the surface of this wonderful part of the world.

I had an amazing time at Digger’s Rest in 2011. I was picked up from the plane, we collected supplies and then drove to the station. Settling in was easy as everyone was so welcoming and relaxed and the food was delicious.
The second day I met my horse and had a gentle ride to get used to him. My trip to Australia was for the 14 day trek in the outback. What a trip it was – Beautiful horses, laughter & new friendships, fantastic food, amazing starry skies, crocodiles to watch, the lovely heat on your back and awesome landscapes. Thank you to my horse, to everyone who rode with me and thank you to Alida & Roderick for making my holiday so special. I wish I could come back again some day.

From the moment we were collected in Kununurra to the time we left, we were so thoroughly well looked after. The horses are superb, lovely natures and soft mouths, a joy to ride. Alida, an absolute delight, cooked up a storm that was so delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Loved sitting round the camp fire every night listening to Roderick’s wonderful stories of life in the Kimberleys…..he’s a legend!!! There wasn’t anything I didn’t love about this trip and hopefully will go back before too long!!

Spent 2 nights at Diggers Rest Station in a bush hut. We were instantly made to feel welcome by Alida & Roderick at Diggers. They were in the middle of their busy mustering time but still provided good old country hospitality. Enjoyed our times around camp fire with their stockmen and WWOOFERS . Went for an early morning horse ride on a true gentleman “Kat”. Loved every minute of our short stay –

We had such amazing rides, great horses, fantastic scenery and great hosts! We could not have been better looked after and the food was wonderful, thanks so much to Roderick and Alida. I would recommend this trip to anyone!! I would certainly go again too.

We stayed 4 nights. Could have stayed indefinitely. Plenty to see and do on your own if you have a sense of adventure. Great company, wholesome and healthy food and opportunity to be a part of the real homestead day to day activities. If you want a horse riding experience, this is a place to die for! – See more at:

I first rode at Diggers Rest with Roderick and Alida in 2000. I’ve been back almost every year since then. Always for at least 7 days, but usually a 10 or 14 day ride. I have had great experiences, met superb people and ridden fantastic, capable and willing horses. Diggers Rest is the Australian outback, honest, no frills, superb country and unique in the world. If you enjoy camping, riding and looking out for horses, bush walking and campfire company, this is the holiday you will talk about forever.
