Doing what you love

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” ~ Rumi, 13th century Persian poet

Roderick and I are in this very fortunate position of doing what we really love. Being surrounded by our animals, and by this amazing landscape, gives us a satisfaction like no other. We find the challenging work and the trying times are all a necessary part of our amazing lives here at Diggers Rest.

The time on the horse treks is magical. We live and breathe horses on the treks, sleeping near them, listening to their spats, snores and contented sighes during the night. By about 4am their eyes are all on the camp, just waiting for someone to be up, lighting the fire, and filling their nose bags! After their breakfast (which isn’t necessarily at 4am:), and ours, we lead them down for a good, long drink and then back to camp for saddling up.  I suppose as much as I love the time in the saddle I also very much enjoy spending time with the horses, looking after them, watching their interactions, and seeing them have a good roll at the end of the day.

So, if you really love horses and horse riding, our horse treks will not lead you astray!
