Five Day Horse Trek to El Questro, June 6-10
Experience the magical East Kimberley by horseback. With the Dry Season well and truly here, the days are warm and the nights are cool. We still have three open saddles on this trek.
After an evening around the campfire at Digger’s Rest Station, we saddle up our horses the next morning and head out on our five day trek down the King River Valley, around the Cockburn Ranges and into El Questro Wilderness Park.
- Day one We ride through the boab flats of Diggers, past the famous boab Prison Tree, and pull up for lunch at Duck Hole on Cockburn Creek. The afternoon ride takes us over a low rise, following a brumby pad, and finishing up at a beautiful billabong on the King River.
- Day two The route heads down along a small creek system then up again over a gradual rise, with 360 degree views of the valley and the Cockburn Ranges. We tuck back down to billabongs off the King River and finish up at Cleanskin Creek, surrounded by massive boab trees.
- Day three Continuing down along the King River, we pass by gum tree lined billabongs, and skirt along the base of a ridge, crossing over the river bed and on to our night camp on an open waterhole with magnificent views of the Cockburn Ranges and Wild Dog Hill.
- Day four Our most challenging day of riding, we head out early, riding over several rises until we swing down into a valley of many creeks and ancient boab trees. Lunch under a sheltering old boab and then the afternoon trek takes us over a few more rises and onto First Creek, crossing over and heading for our camp on First Creek flat.
- Day five Heading south towards the township on El Questro, we ride over sloping hills, down along spring fed creeks, through a gap into Spurling Pocket and then on across the Pentecost River and into El Questro township, our final night camp on the Pentecost River.
- New Yard Waterhole, King River
