Join our 5 days/6 nights horse riding adventure in the magnificent Kimberley region, exploring breathtaking landscapes on horseback and moving cattle on one of Australia’s historic cattle stations spanning over 700,000 acres.

Limited to a maximum of eight riders, this is an authentic Australian cattle station experience – not just an experience prepared for the visitors – so be prepared for some early starts and a few long days in the saddle as we will be riding for about 4 – 6 hours every day. It is a station-based program which means you will be returning to the station each night.

The week includes morning rides with smoko (tea break), lunches at remote waterholes on certain days and lunches in the shade of the homestead veranda on others, afternoon rides, sunset rides, and evening camp fires at the homestead. After a hearty dinner, your comfortable bed with a view of the star filled sky will be calling.

As with all of Horses & Cattle Australia experiences, this is the real deal. To get the most out of the experience as a guest, you will be guided by experienced stock(wo)men. If you are an experienced rider this will be an adventure of a lifetime.

Day One

You will be picked up in Kununurra by mid day (either at accommodation or at the airport). Enjoy the ever-changing and spectacular East Kimberley landscape on our two hour drive out to the station. We arrive at Diggers Rest Station in time to settle in, meet the horses and enjoy the sunset!

Days Two through Six

We spend the first morning getting to know the horses, and then a ride out along the tidal billabongs to the north of the station-wide open spaces that will take your breath away!

Since this is an authentic cattle station experience, it’s the animals and nature who dictate the schedule. What you will be doing varies from day to day. A typical day would be an early rise, breakfast, saddle up and ride out to the area being worked that day. There might be days when cattle need to be moved and on other days you will ride out and check on mobs of cattle to see how they are faring. In addition, there will be some checking of fences and watering points along the way. Throughout the day, you will be rewarded with magnificent views, and no doubt feel like you are being transported back to drover times gone by.

At the end of the day, you will welcome the luxury of washing off the sweat and red dirt you kicked up during a canter or two  – in your own starlit shower in your bush hut.

Anyone keen to ride into the sunset? One thing not to be missed are the sunset nibbles and drinks out at the boab grove. Whether you want to ride into the sunset with your equine companion or you prefer to just hop into the 4WD, the view of the Cockburn Ranges and the marsh country at sunset is pretty spectacular!

After dinner it’s time to gather around the campfire, have a bit of a yarn with your mates and listen to some stories. And, before you retire to your bush hut for a good night’s rest, you'll marvel at the  starry Kimberley skies that will keep you stargazing into the night.

Day Seven

Transfer to Kununurra after breakfast. On the way to Kununurra, we take you into the small town of Wyndham and up to one of the most spectacular views in the North, the Five Rivers Lookout. Afterwards, a visit to the local bakery provides an opportunity to taste a crocodile pie or a delicious barramundi pie. Next stop is the beautiful Marlgu World Heritage Bird Reserve (Parry Lagoon), a haven for various tropical water birds, and freshwater and saltwater (estuarine) crocodiles, which can be viewed from the boardwalk. This is definitely well worth a visit!
