The perks of horse trekking in May

Our first horse trek of the season, May 14-17, is one of my favourites. Most years the creeks haven’t stopped running, and the rejuvenating benefits of the wet season are still apparent. It can be a little on the warm side in May, but the amazing landscape is so worth it!

On this particular trek, we have a base camp for three nights (so no rolling the swag every morning, only when we pack up to head back to the station). From our base camp on Cockburn Creek, we explore spring fed creeks, canter over sandy spinifex flats, and follow brumby pads over the undulating rises around the Cockburn Ranges.

There always seems to be a good balance of comradery and quiet reflection on our horse treks, with plenty of time for some solitude.
